IL TETTO
IL TETTO è lo sviluppo di una nuova fase di ricerca su ADAMO'S HOME Project.
Il titolo fa riferimento all'opera cinematografica italiana “Il tetto”, film post-neorealista del 1956 di Vittorio De Sica. Quest'opera ambientata nel dopoguerra racconta di due giovani di borgata che vorrebbero sposarsi ma non hanno una casa dove poter vivere e trovano un sistema per costruirsene una abusivamente: dovranno riuscire a tirare su le mura nell'arco di una notte e a posizionare un tetto entro il sorgere del sole. La finitura della copertura, infatti, consentiva per la perpetuazione di antichi diritti dell'uso di poter cavillare sulla potenziale demolizione, che veniva così evitata, sancendo l'indistruttibilità del fabbricato da parte delle pubbliche amministrazioni.
Quasi leggendariamente, per concretizzare le loro speranze, gli immigrati usavano associarsi per costruire a turno le abitazioni di ciascuna famiglia.
DAS ANDERE
Da una rilettura de “Il tetto” nasce il progetto di performance dove una architettura, costruita “abusivamente” nell'arco di una notte in uno spazio aperto e periferico, viene fatta brillare con micro-cariche esplosive il mattino seguente al sorgere del sole.
Una piccola collettività di persone, reclutate sul posto e coinvolte nel progetto, è l'artefice, insieme agli artisti, della costruzione.
Il video, che documenta l'intera fase di esecuzione dei lavori e del crollo stesso, viene proiettato in tempo reale (con un ponte radio) per tutta la notte all'interno di uno spazio espositivo, divenendo parte di una più articolata video-installazione dal titolo Das Andere.
Il pubblico può seguire la costruzione sia dal vivo che in diretta video nello spazio espositivo.
La video-installazione vede coinvolte anche altre due importanti opere cinematografiche: “Miracolo a Milano” dello stesso De Sica (1951) e “La fonte meravigliosa” di King Vidor (1949) dalle quali sono estrapolate e rielaborate alcune sequenze audio e video significative con l'obiettivo di mettere in relazione differenti livelli di analisi dei concetti di collettività e individuo attraverso la lente dell'architettura, arte sociale per eccellenza.
ECHO
All'intervento performativo-installativo di Das Andere si affianca, astraendosi e spostandone il fuoco sui concetti di tempo e di resistenza, il lavoro Echo: performance, installazione e video in cui un plastico architettonico volumetrico viene fatto esplodere con micro-cariche in teche di plexiglas riempite di una particolare gelatina. Il rapporto di forze che si crea tra la violenza dell'esplosione, la natura del materiale utilizzato e la capacità di attutire la deflagrazione da parte della gelatina fa si che il “crollo” venga visivamente “congelato” nel primo istante del suo accadere come in un fotogramma di una sequenza video.
Echo è lo sviluppo delle sperimentazioni iniziate con i lavori della serie “Gelatina Stills”.
TRIBUTE TO ANFIONE
Fa da “colonna sonora” all'intero progetto lo sviluppo del lavoro Tribute to Anfione (da Adamo's Home - link), performance audio che va a sfiorare i concetti più astratti di “architettura come ritmo” e di “costruzione come musica” attraverso uno strumento che ha nell'algoritmo informatico l'elemento generatore di un suono.
IL TETTO (The Roof)
IL TETTO (The Roof) is the development of a new phase of research on ADAMO'S HOME Project.
The project title refers to Vittorio De Sica’s post-neorealist film “Il tetto” (The Roof, 1956). Set in post-war Italy, the story is about an impoverished newlywed couple desperately looking for a place to live. The only way to have a home of their own is to illegally build one overnight with the roof raised by daybreak. Under Italian law at the time, once a roof was erected, the building occupants could not be evicted; because of this legal loophole, the building could not be demolished and the public authorities are forced to leave it standing.
Legendary, to realize their hope, were the efforts of homeless immigrants who banded together to build houses for their families.
DAS ANDERE
Reinterpreting the film’s theme, the performance project centers around a structure “illegally” built in an open space overnight and then demolished by micro-explosive charges at dawn the next day.
A small community of local people, involved in the project, is the creator, together with the artists, of the construction.
The video documentation of the structure’s construction and demolition is shown in real time (through a radio link) overnight in an indoor exhibition space, becoming part of a more complex video-installation titled Das Andere.
The public can follow the costruction both live and on real time video.
The video-installation cites two other famous films, De Sica’s Miracle in Milan (1951) and King Vidor’s The Fountainhead (1949), from which audio and video sequences are taken and reworked to counterpoise different layers of analysis of collectivism and individualism through architecture, social art par excellence.
ECHO
Alongside the performative-installative intervention Das Andere, abstracting and moving the focus on the concepts of time and resistance, is the work Echo: performance, installation and video in which an architectural volumetric model is blown up with explosive micro-charges inside plexiglas display cases filled with a special gelatin. The ratio of forces that creates between the violence of the explosion, the nature of the material used for the model and the ability of the gelatin to absorb the blast, causes the visual effect of a real “freezing” of the collapse in the first instant of its happening like in a frame from a video sequence.
Echo is the development of the experimentations started with the works of the series “Gelatina Stills”.
TRIBUTE TO ANFIONE
As a “soundtrack” to the whole project is the development of the work Tribute to Anfione (from Adamo's Home - link), audio performance that evokes abstract concepts such as “architecture as rhythm” and “construction as music” and is produced by a sound tone generator that creates different types of sound with various computer algorithms.
